Subtraction with and without regrouping
Borrowing is where most students get stuck. Start with problems that never need regrouping, then mix them in, then practise only regrouping problems until it clicks. The generator handles everything from subtraction facts within 10 to 5-digit column subtraction.
Fresh subtraction drills every day
Each New Worksheet keeps your settings but changes every number, so students can't memorise the answers. Use the horizontal layout for mental subtraction and the vertical layout for column methods.
Subtraction Worksheet Generator — FAQ
How do I make a subtraction worksheet?
Choose the digits for the top and bottom numbers, set borrowing to mixed, none or always, pick the layout and number of problems, then press Print or Download PDF.
Will any answers be negative?
No. The bottom number is never larger than the top number, so every answer is zero or more.
Can I make subtraction worksheets without borrowing?
Yes. Set Borrowing to “No borrowing” and each column subtracts without regrouping — a good first step for column subtraction.
Can every problem require borrowing?
Yes. Choose “Always borrowing” (available from 2-digit numbers up) and every problem needs at least one regroup.
Is there an answer key?
Yes. The answer key prints on a separate page so you can hand out the worksheet and keep the answers.
