Each word gets its own practice box: children read the word, trace it on handwriting lines, write it on their own and circle it among similar words. Pick words from the built-in Dolch and Fry lists or type the exact words your class is learning this week.
Why read, trace, write and find works
Seeing, saying, writing and searching for the same word builds instant recognition — the goal of sight word practice. The circle-it activity mixes the target word with other high-frequency words, so children must look carefully at every letter.
Sight Word Worksheet Generator — FAQ
How do I make a sight word worksheet?
Choose a Dolch or Fry list (or type your own words), pick up to six words, tick the activities you want — trace, write, circle or sentence — then press Print or Download PDF.
Is this sight word worksheet generator free?
Yes. It is completely free, needs no account and runs in your browser.
Which sight word lists are included?
All five Dolch levels (Pre-Primer, Primer, Grade 1, Grade 2 and Grade 3 — 220 words) and Fry's first 100 words. You can also type any custom word list, such as words from your reading program.
What is the difference between Dolch and Fry sight words?
Dolch words (1948) are 220 high-frequency service words grouped by grade, with nouns kept separate. Fry words (1957, updated 1980) are the 1,000 most common words in reading material, taught 100 at a time. Many schools use Dolch for K–2 and Fry from grade 1 upward.
How many sight words should a child learn per week?
Most kindergarten classrooms introduce 3–5 new sight words a week, reviewing earlier words alongside them. One worksheet per word set, used across the week, works well.
